Holiday Pet Food Drive 2015

This year we were able to collect and amazing 5,000lbs of dog/cat food and kitty litter donations that was distributed to the local animal rescues including: CLAWS, Grand River Humane Society, Loma Cat House, Mesa County Animal Services and Roice-Hurst Humane Society. Thank you to all who donated to this great cause to help pets in need!

Collaboration with Fruita Police Department

This year the Fruita PD started a program to help Fruita pets to find furever homes. In collaboration with them we donated the spay and vaccine in order to help the first dog, Lola, find a loving home. We look forward to being able to help out more local pets in need and a great partnership with the Fruita Police Department.

Lola's Bladder Stone Surgery-06/03/2014

Lola is a 7 year old Shih Tzu who was recently relinquished to Roice Hurst Humane Society. Lola was presented to the clinic for abnormal urination behavior and was quickly diagnosed with bladder stones as seen on the radiographs. Lola underwent her second surgery in 2 years to remove the bladder stones and is now back on a prescription diet to help manage and prevent recurrence of stone formation which she will need to be on for the remainder of her life.

Dogs and cats alike are at risk for developing bladder stones which can quickly lead to a life threatening emergency if the urethra, the outflow track for the bladder, becomes blocked or plugged by a stone. Some stones are amenable to diet therapy and dissolution, but often times surgery is needed to remove the stones and assure that a urethral blockage does not occur.

A urinalysis and monitoring of urinary pH levels can help determine if a pet is at risk for bladder stones. This is another reason we have included annual urinalysis screening as part of our wellness plan plus package to provide the best preventative care possible to our patients. Check out our Facebook page for pictures of Lola's stones and x-rays!
